Sustainability Leadership for the Built Environment (IDBE)

Part-time Master's and Postgraduate Certificate courses from the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership

Matt Byatt is a Chartered Structural Engineer with extensive experience across both the UK construction industry and the offshore energy sector within the UK and NL. Within his current role he is predominantly working on projects within the offshore oil and gas sector, particularly within the Southern North Sea region. He has been practicing as a Chartered Structural Engineer since 2005. However, he began his structural engineering career in 1989 as a trainee structural technician, studying on a day release and evening basis before becoming an Incorporated Structural Engineer in 1995. He has been continuously active within the Institution of Structural Engineers since 1995, when he joined the East Anglian Regional Group as a committee member, and has been an active member ever since; serving as Regional Group Chairman twice, first in 2010-2011 and again in 2015-16.

As a Director of Pinnacle Consulting Engineers, based in the Norwich office, Matt is responsible for both the technical and commercial running of the office and of a wide variety of projects and work-scopes across many sectors for our varied and highly valued client base. Previous experiences working within both consulting engineering practices and as a steelwork contractor gives a broad, well-rounded and practical knowledge base of structural engineering within the wider context of the construction industry.

Matt is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Institution of Structural Engineers and represents the East Anglian Regional Group on Council. He is also a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers Business Practice and Regulatory Control Committee. Matt chaired the Institution of Structural Engineers technical panel in producing the 2014 book 'The Structural Use of Glass in Buildings 2nd Edition'.

In January 2015 Matt presented an evening technical lecture to the Institution of Structural Engineers East Anglian Regional Group on ‘Velocity String Structural Engineering in the Southern North Sea’.
